1. Create a packing list

Make yourself a packing list and you won't take unnecessary stuff, so pack only the essentials. Not too many tops, not too many bottoms either. Two pairs of shoes are also sufficient. Say goodbye to the idea of "just in case", because you'll end up with a full suitcase that's more suitable for a big vacation trip instead of a city break.

2. Check documents

When planning your trip, you should take into account the entry and residence formalities and inform yourself about them in detail. Make sure that both your identity cards and passport are still valid. Some countries require a passport that is valid for a few months after the return date.

3. Observe regulations

If you are traveling by plane, check the regulations of the respective airline regarding weight and size of hand luggage and other luggage. The airlines sometimes have different conditions, if you do not observe these, it can sometimes come to expensive surcharges.

4. Light luggage

Depending on the airline you can take a hand luggage with about 10 kg weight. But as already mentioned, check with your airline to make sure you are on the safe side and avoid additional charges. For hand luggage, it is best to use a small suitcase that you can also pull on wheels. It is up to you whether you use a soft suitcase or a hard suitcase. In the meantime, there are already hard-shell suitcases that hardly differ in weight from the soft suitcases.

5. Liquids in the cabin

You should also remember this regulation, because in the cabin you may only carry bottles or containers with up to 100 ml, which must also be in a transparent plastic bag (20 x 20 cm). The plastic bag must be well closed and the individual items must not be packed too tightly. Only one bag is allowed per passenger.

6. Electricity

Before you start your trip you should inform yourself about the local electric standards and take an adapter with you if necessary.

7. Important: a backpack

A backpack is a must for a city trip. It should be neither too big nor too small. A backpack is also more practical than a simple handbag, which you always carry over one shoulder. With the backpack you always have both hands free and also protect your back.
